About Rick Terrien

Rick Terrien learned the lessons of entrepreneurship very early while selling newspapers car-to-car at stoplights during grade school. He hasn’t stopped creating new business opportunities since.
Since age 45, Rick has demonstrated the ageless model...

He was awarded the United States Small Business New Product of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers. “This prestigious award honors American companies and their contribution to society. Winning products were chosen for their exceptional engineering research, design, and overall impact on our national economy.”
He has also been recognized by Fast Company as one of their Fast 50, now called the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies. “The Fast 50 are the idea elite of business, individuals with the vision and personal commitment to propel their companies and industries into the future. The Fast 50 is not just about bigwigs or bottom line. It’s a group of uncompromising leaders, tireless innovators, turnaround artists, truth-tellers, trendsetters – people who are fueled by courage, integrity, passion and a commitment to results.”

As an innovator, inventor, and business developer with nine U.S. and foreign patents in industrial fluid recycling, his designs have recovered tens of millions of gallons of oil worldwide that were previously lost as wastewater. This equipment has also prevented industrial carbon residues from entering the atmosphere on a globally relevant scale for more than 20 years.

Rick was recognized as an AARP Purpose Prize Fellow in 2015. The tag line for the award is, Making a Difference is Ageless.

“The Purpose Prize is all about a new story of aging – focusing on experience and innovation and the idea that our aging population is an untapped resource full of possibilities. Purpose Prize winners and nominees are role models. They are makers and doers who are out there creating new solutions that make the world a better place for people of all ages.”

Rick’s work as a recognized leader in regional food systems is now over 10 years old. He is currently helping launch and lead one of the most innovative regional food organizations in the world.
